Understanding Meets
Regular Swim Meets:
All regular meets have 90 events. There are four official strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly), in different distances and combinations for all age groups. Boys and girls compete separately, and the swimmers are divided into age groups: 6 & under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and 15-18. At the dual meets (meets with 2 teams competing) and tri meets (meets with 3 teams competing) swimmers compete to earn points for their team (based on the finish place in events). Remember that even though your child may not earn points for the team, it still gives them a chance to compete, work towards a personal best and build experience.
Sign up for the meet (prior to the meet):
You will need to sign your child up to participate (or not participate) in each meet via online meet sign up (Swimtopia). You will receive an email from the Parent Reps the Monday before the Saturday meet. The meet sign-up will be closed and locked at midnight the Tuesday before the upcoming Saturday’s meet. You must go on-line to sign up before the deadline. If you do not, the swimmer will not be able to swim at that meet.
Team Tents at the Meet:
Our team puts up tents at each meet. They serve as places where swimmers can get out of the rain or sun, store belongings, and rest. All swimmers are welcome and encouraged to hang out here. If you choose not to have your child in the team tent, we ask that you stay nearby it, so their coaches can easily find your child when they are needed for heating, etc.
After the meet:
Please help clean up the pool area, throw away your trash and check the team tent for your belongings.
